Unlikely, but Prepared?

Why are zombies so mainstream right now? I don't understand the fascination the world seems to have with them. I personally don't believe in zombies, and the image of them are foul, creepy looking creatures, plus the whole concept of a zombie apocalypse is, in fact, ridiculous. But, I might as well prepare for the highly unlikely event of a Zombie apocalypse. (Does that make me a hypocrite?)
I guess I would start off with gathering some "survival necessities" if you may. This would include food, water, a radio, and a blanket. I can't tell you how many times I have heard horror stories of people in survival situations who talking about freezing to death at night. No sir, that is not going to be me. I would also make sure that I am wearing tennis shoes because there will probably be a time in which running is a life or death necessity. Now that I think about it, I might need to get in shape because honestly, if a zombie apocalypse were to occur tomorrow, I would probably die, so thank you Mr. Logsdon for making me go on a desperately needed run. Next, I would make sure that I have a place to go. (I am unsure of the location right now because I'm pretty confident that it is not going to be needed.) Lastly, I would get some kind of weapon so I could defend myself. It would have to be a gun of some type because I have a weird fear of knives.
