Strength to Face the Day

File:JFK's family leaves Capitol after his funeral, 1963.jpg
On November 22, 1963 President John F Kennedy was assassinated while riding in the back of a limousine in downton Dallas. On November 25, 1963 the beloved president was laid to rest. The picture is of him wife, Jacqueline Kennedy and his two young children, Carolina and John Jr at the funeral. In such a time of despair, Jackie led the country in the mourning of the President's death. It is often said that her strength shown here at the funeral was a beacon of light for a country distraught over loosing its leader. The children also offer a message of hope for tomorrow. The entirety of the funeral party shown in the picture are clad in dark clothing but the children are dressed in blue (not visible in the picture). The purity and resilience of a child signaled life after tragedy, that their mother and themselves would recover and so would the rest of the nation. In a time where the nation felt as if its heart had been ripped out, this photograph of the First Lady and her children was the face of mourning as well as strength.
