Somewhere in the grey

I do not think that people and things are either good or bad. It is not clear cut and either black or white. It is definitely a grey area, depending on the perspective of the person. Even the best people in the world mess up and do bad things. Taken from the great advice of hannah montana, "everyone makes mistakes; everyone has those days." The difference is how positive of a person you are. Do you notice the good in someone before the bad or vice versus? We get very caught up in finding faults in everyone in our society today. In my opinion, being so judgmental and finding the bad in someone makes you worse than the person you are talking about. Also, besides God, I don't think that people are either all good or bad. You can find a good thing about everyone, as well as a bad thing. Even though it is difficult sometimes, I try to find a positive about everyone to then compliment them on or talk to them about. Doing this makes you see the good things about people, instead of the bad, even though both exist in everyone.
I completely agree with the news scenario. Instead of discussing the 99 times something went wrong, society criticizes the one time it went wrong. I think it is an indirect way of scaring everyone in the nation so that whoever it is has more control over us. We always hear about the one bad case the happened when being on this medication, or the one death that occurred in this neighborhood, basically scaring us to even leave our house. I think the news needs to show more stories like they did with the girl finding the money. Instead of focusing on the bad, this would put more of an emphasis on the good and maybe cause people to mimic this behavior. Instead of someone being predetermined into being good or bad, I semi believe in the tabula rosa, which is that we are born with a blank slate, from the which society and our environment shapes us. The people you surround yourself with have a huge impact on the decisions you make and how good of a person you will turn out to be. Most of the time, if you hangout with people that fail school, do drugs, and participate in other bad activities, you will probably succumb to the pressure and be bad, even though this might not have been how you were when you were born. On the other hand, students doing good things all tend to be alike and find good things to do. The family that raised you has a big impact because of the expectations they have for you. If they messed up a lot and don't expect anything out of you, it would be easy to be bad. Because everyone has good and bad in them, i think good versus evil is not clear cut but in more of a grey area.
