let's do a runthrough of the stats: Michael Sommer, 16 year old boy, i will be 17 in October. Like 6 feet tall and hovering around 170 in weight. but since im not a boxer you probably wanna know more about me than that so lets see here
i live with two younger sisters and my mom. its not fun. if you tell me my disdain for my siblings is wrong i will laugh at you because you dont have to live with them! my dad lives in washington d.c. so its pretty cool visiting him because that city is something like a million times more interesting than lexington. fun fact: i really wanted to move there super bad after eighth grade because middle school was actually pretty terrible for me and i wanted to ~start fresh~ but I'm glad i didnt! because actually things got a whole lot better for me because i never have many very very very good friends (i bet you can guess who some of them are if you know me even a little at all!) and also i have a pretty great girlfriend and no she doesnt go to this school so stop asking who she is because you dont know her! though i suppose i would be somewhat pleasantly surprised if you did...
If you're looking for me to describe my personality I'm gonna have to be honest with you: I really really don't enjoy doing that. because it always involves me either feeling like i'm praising myself or feeling like I'm putting myself down and those both bother me. So... if you wanna know what my personality is i guess talk to me!! not everybody has to come with a dossier
Let's talk about goals! This year I'm focused on two things: 1. pass the five AP tests coming my way. The hardest of these will be Spanish. Oh my, I sure do hate foreign language... the second is becoming far far far far more involved and distinguished through extracurriculars and the like, because I'm having some severe anxiety that no amount of good grades is going to help me get into college (you sure haven't been helping that much Mr. Logsdon...) So I'm trying to join more clubs, do more service, take more leadership roles... That sort of thing. I'll take this moment to plug my favorite clubs: History Club (THE BEST CLUB PLEASE JOIN IT), Gay-Straight Alliance (my club I'm basically the president I promise it will be so great this year please come to our meeting on Thursday), Young Democrats (if you want Mitt Romney for president please don't tell me it may make me think less of you). Ultimately I wanna go to college and major in Political Science, preferably somewhere on the left coast. After that, I'm thinking I'd like to go to law school and perhaps be a civil defender or civil litigator.
Okay summer was.... Pretty uneventful for me actually... I had a lot of plans and they pretty much all managed to fall to pieces. Probably one the best times though was when I went to the Pride Festival with my good friends Bay and Sarah and I actually got to speak on stage! Maybe some of you were there and saw me. It was actually extremely embarrassing because Mr. Brown had TOLD me he wouldn't make me speak but... I guess i did alright, whatever. The festival was still amazing though, there were tons of awesome people to see there and it was so encouraging seeing how many people in Lexington are a part of or support the LGBT community. Bonus memory: taking my girlfriend to Build-a-Bear for her 17th birthday was a blast.
You might notice I'm answering all of your provided questions, mr. logsdon, which is because i am not a very imaginative person... But yeah the last one there is what superpower would you have and that is one I have actually considered before! and the answer is to stop time because time is a very very very precious resource which i wish i had a heck of a lot more of (ooooh I just ended a sentence with a preposition I'm such a naughty boy)
Ok now for what geeks me out!!! Which is a veritable pandora's box of a question because there basically a whole ton of those things. To name a few:
- cartoons, favorites including but not limited to: Adventure Time, Regular Show, Gravity Falls, The Legend of Korra
- Webcomics too. I have quite a few that I like but the top three are definitely MS Paint Adventures which is what I'm talking about if you ever hear me mention "homestuck" and is where my weird pink shirt with the mutant cat is from, Hark! A Vagrant, which is a particularly good one if you're very big into classic literature and/or history and is where my squid and balloon shirts come from, and Gunnerkrigg Court which is much more in the style of a traditional comic book and is so amazing if you can bear through the first few chapters which are pretty poorly drawn.
- video games, particularly at the moment the Ace Attorney series for the DS (if you have an interest in law or even if you don't you should play these because they are superb) and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which quite plainly contains one of the most amazing and captivating fictional worlds ever conceived of (Mr. Logsdon the fact that you play it too makes me happier than you could understand)
- non-fiction books - while fiction is good too, non-fiction is what really pushes my buttons. my most recent reads have been Freakonomics, which is much more interesting than any book about economics has any right to be, and Our Magnificent Bastard Tongue, which has been described by the Henry Clay Mr. Pope as "a bawdy title" but in fact describes the author's far more interesting and explanatory history of the English language than the commonly accepted one. I recommned both highly!
- music. this actually should have been at the very top of the list because BOY do i love music. I have a record player which in at least twenty three states makes me legally a hipster. naming the genres or artists i love the most would be a borderline herculean task for me, but suffice it to say i listen to a little bit of everything. It's actually rather entertaining because my iPod can shuffle from Die Antwoord (warning, "bawdy" language) to Purity Ring (I have that one on vinyl it's one of my favorites because it's a teal record) to Slayer (warning: if you are a wimp this may be TOO METAL FOR YOU). But yeah music is one of my obsessions if only people cared
- Finally, politics geeks me out pretty bad, but more in the way that some people get REALLY passionate about whether Captain Kirk or Captain Picard is better. So yes if politics is the topic i will have an opinion and i will want to argue about it. I'm pretty flipping liberal so if that's not your cuppa tea you might just wanna avoid talking to me about such things but I dunno I'll give you a good debate if you're into that
Along the same lines let's talk about websites. I linked to a few webcomics up there, MSPA, Hark! A Vagrant, and Gunnerkrigg. Those are all tops. Tumblr is one I use a lot but that's no fun to talk about and don't ask I'm not giving you my url. Call me girly but I actually really love Etsy because there are some truly amazing homemade products on there (I got my wallet on there!). Finally, Bandcamp is a truly amazing website which allows you to find great music by new independent artists. Here are some of my favorite albums I've ever found on there.
This post is already waaaaay longer than it should be so let me close out with the only good picture I have of myself:
I'm using good very loosely of course. That's from Spring Break 2012 when I went to the National Zoo in Washigton, D.C. and got my picture taken with the real Triceratops that they totally have there.
If you read all of this you deserve a treat so tell me if you did and I'll bake you some cookies or something.
