Music iWrite

Prompt: How often do you use your ipod (or phone or whatnot)? What is your perfect playlist for ____ (fill in the blank - it could be your perfect playlist for a sunny day, for a road trip, for thanksgiving, etc.) Choose 5 songs, note the song and artist and why you chose this song.

Technology is something I use every day, and while I’m not apple crazy or obsessed with getting the new iphone the day it comes out, I think it’s safe to say I have an attachment. I have a blackberry that went extinct about two years ago, a fourth generation ipod nano, and the family laptop is five years old, still running on the 2003 edition of Microsoft Office; but quite honestly, old and out of style, I love them. This might be because while I have respect for all the new high-tech stuff out there, I remain simplistic in my choosing of technology. I like my old ipod nano because it’s tough and does what it’s supposed to do—play music for me. I don't need all those extra gadgets that have nothing to do with what an ipod was originally intended for. This gets me into how often I use my ipod..bedtime, homework, trips—you name it, and I’ll probably have my ipod with me. Music is what controls my life; therefore, I’ve always got my music with me. I have tons of playlists on my ipod, but I have to say my favorite one is just an "on-the-go" I put together. It’s perfect for roadtrips, bedtime, homework, pretty much everything I need my music for. (I’m actually listening to it as I type this.) It consists of mostly country, my favorite, and a few other scattered genres. The first song is Even If It Breaks Your Heart by The Eli Young Band, which is my favorite song. It has an incredible chorus and the lyrics talk about dreaming on, “even if it breaks your heart” which is something I’ve encountered a lot in my recent life. The next song is For You by Keith Urban. It’s from the soundtrack of the movie Act of Valor, a movie I’m dying to see when I get the chance. It’s about war, my favorite genre of film, and carries intensity and a personal connection. My granddaddy was in the air force during World War II and was stationed in Hawaii during Pearl Harbor. A lot of my family has history in war and it’s just something I’ve grown close to as I’ve grown as a person. Then there’s Something Beautiful by NEEDTOBREATHE, which gets me in a mood I can’t even describe every time I hear it. This band isn’t one I’ve listened to a lot, but as I’ve started listening to more Christian music, I’ve heard some of their singles. I happened to come across this song one day and it just made me happy, over time becoming one of my favorite songs. Then there’s (Kissed You) Good Night by Gloriana. I don’t really know why I like this song so much other than it’s an incredibly cute love story and it’s, of course, country. What I like about this song is it’s one of the songs that so greatly describes the sweet serendipity of love in the circle of life. The last song I chose is That’s Why I Pray by Big & Rich. This song simply discusses scenarios in which the irony of life is portrayed and how we don’t think about our actions’ repercussions, thus proving the reason for praying. The chorus is merely about hope and reasons for praying, after discussing these ironic happenings. It’s amazing how things discussed in this song hit us like never before, even when they happen every day in front of us without our realization. “I’m only one person, but I can feel it working. I believe in better days..that’s why I pray.”
