Good vs Evil has always been at the root of stories, folklore, beliefs, etc since the beginning of time. My father tells me constantly, "There are no unique stories. At the core of every story is the struggle between good and evil."
Belief in a manifestation of good is seen in most all religious beliefs throughout the world. But this epitome of "right" is always coupled with the epitome of "wrong" - a manifestation of evil.
The dichotomy that exists is, in my opinion, unforgiving. This life we live, is not like the movies; there are no "bad guys". There's never just one right answer. Lots of people like to sort things into black and white, right and wrong, good and evil. I believe there is nothing not is truly good, but neither is anything truly evil.
The world is grey. Everywhere about us, I see the colour grey, hear the colour grey.
When people speak, when they argue, what they argue about can be filtered down to trying to distinguish one shade of grey from another.
When people see "bad" things happen, or "good" things happen, they're really just seeing one side of the story, one shade of grey. Because, in reality, all these things we perceive as "good" or "evil" are just ideas, concepts to help us understand the world.
But sometimes this attempt to sort through the grey comes at our own detriment. Who's to say what is good and what is evil? Who's to understand why things happen?
Because it's never as simple as Harry Potter vs Voldemort, the Jedi vs the Sith, Frodo vs Saron. It's never black and white. It's all grey. And there are infinite shades of grey.
