GoodEvilGovil
From the time we are born to the time we die we are taught, educated, lectured, misled, and corrected on what is right and what is wrong, what is evil and what is good. I beleive that the majority of peoples stances on good and evil come from their parents who usually get their views on good and evil from whatever religion they practice, and the views of the more dominant religions have translated to the general views of society. Let's go ahead and define Good and Evil. According to Merriam Webster Dictionary Evil is defined as ; 1) morally reprehensible, 2)archaic, 3) causing harm. Merriam Webster Dictionary defines Good as; 1)of a favorable character or tendency 2) virtuous, right, commendable. I think most people would agree with this because that is what we were taught was good and evil, but is this what good and evil really are, can good and evil even be defined, and is there even such a thing as good and evil?
believe in todays society people are very inconsistent in what we see as good and evil. I would say much of the inconsistency comes from the fact that their are so many different religions and sub religions that what one group of people might deem an every day thing may be a sin and evil act of the devil to another group. So yes the concepts of good and evil are very gray.
As for the news story about the women returning the wallet, many would say that that is what she was supposed to do, while others would say it was a great act of "goodness'' and honesty. If that is what the women was supposed to do and was expected wouldn't it have been "Evil" to keep the wallet? If it was a great act of unexpected honesty would keeping the wallet neither been bad nor good but the expected norm, and in this case evil wouldn't exist in the scenario?
So when did the concepts of good and evil come to be? Much of the world would say when religion began. Good would have been what pleased (or what they thought pleased God or the Gods, and evil would be what angered god or the gods. Before religion when neanderthals roamed the earth fighng everyday to survive you may think maybe they had no concept of good and evil, they just did what they needed to do to survive. If they had to murder someone in ordr to survive they did and went on surviving feeling no guilt But once God(S) and religion came into play good and evil were born and ever since have become more complicated starting out as a very clear black and whte and slowly mixing into a grayish ugly color of which noone knows its true name.
