We, as a family, travel a fair amount. Whenever we're somewhere else, my parents have insisted that I look out the window, down side streets, into stores, and so on. It's not just that they want me involved in the area--reading a map or a brochure, for instance, is discouraged-- but rather that they want me to maximize the benefit of our trips. Since they began telling me to look out more, I've been pretty intentional about looking. I have developed a tendency to look intently, regularly, and closely at my surroundings.
When Winburn Middle School (once a warrior, always a warrior) took our class trip to Chicago, we visited Shedd Aquarium. I distinctly remember my good bud Kyle deleting photos off his camera during a dolphin show so he could take more and missing the grand finale because he was looking at pictures of dolphins. Not doing that is a life goal of mine.
