My Two Neighbors, Lauren and Leo

How do I start by describing the two people who I sit next to in English class, Leo de Castro (who sits on my right) and Lauren Gilbert (who sits on my left)? Well, for one thing, Lauren and Leo are, honestly, two of the most intelligent people who I have ever met, and I've met some extremely smart people throughout my 17 years. Yet these two characters deserve more than that. I will devote the rest of this blog to further describing these two, their personalities, their idiosyncrasies, and their behavior. I will start with Leo.

Leo de Castro: Leo is, as I have said, extremely intelligent—he makes A's in all of his five very demanding AP courses—but he is also kind, honest, and very trustworthy. Since I first met him in the 8th grade, when I moved here from Texas, he has been nothing but kind and considerate; I have never seen him angry once. He is also an exceptionally interesting person to talk to. Every time I talk to him, I feel as if I am talking to the real Leo de Castro, a person who is not afraid to reveal his true self to the rest of the world. Finally, Leo is the definition of trustworthy. In fact, for some weird reason that I am unable to describe, Leo gives off this cool vibe of trustworthiness; I cannot say the same for most others. He is one of the few people, outside of my family, who I feel that I can comfortably share my innermost thoughts with. I know that I can always trust him. Other than that, Leo is shy and modest. He has a very quirky and entertaining sense of humor, which I appreciate after a long day of school. He's on the swim team. He plays the guitar. He loves anything Nerf (whether it is a Nerf gun, Nerf sword, Nerf etc.). He, like me, enjoys video games (especially Skyrim). If I were to assign Leo a color, I would choose green, for this reason I do not exactly know why. Maybe it's because I find that green accurately describes his quirky, intelligent, and modest personality. I don't really know. He is very good at math and science, and in a few years, I could see him as a successful scientist, helping to make the world a better place.

Lauren Gilbert: Lauren is, like Leo, one of the smartest people that I have ever met. She make A's in all of her classes, and she has made fives on all of her AP tests (including the AP Spanish test, which I find absolutely astonishing and deserving of immediate respect). Yet there is more to Lauren than just her academic success and remarkable intellect; for one, she is incredibly nice. I first met Lauren freshman year, and ever since then, I've noticed that she is the type of friend who will help you in any way that she possibly can if you really need it. Even if you are not in need of it, she is perfectly willing to help out; it is in her caring nature. She is also very talkative (but in a good way). Every time she has the chance, she is talking. However, what she says is actually interesting, intelligent, and purposeful, which is more than I can say for many others (especially for those who awkwardly try to make conversation). Unfortunately, I have not really had the chance to get to know Lauren until this year, unlike Leo, whose personality I came to understand in the 8th grade. But in the few months that we have sit next to each other in English, I have learned a great deal about her. She is a very good writer—what takes me an hour or two would probably take her 20 minutes. She's in the band. She is obsessed with Doctor Who, to the point of addiction really. She, like me, loves science-fiction, and she's very good at language, which is pretty obvious considering her proficiency at both English and Spanish. If I had to give her a color, it would be yellow due to her energetic , optimistic, and cheery attitude. In a few years, I can see Lauren exceedingly successful in some profession involving language or social studies.
