Summer in the Land of Angles

Yeah, so don't read this. Please. Stop now. Just look at the amount of words and check me off. Great

School is bleh, and currently all I want to do is get out of it. Luckily for me, summer is right around the corner, so I'm going to compile some songs that put me in the summer mood. Not really what one could call a playlist but I am not a playlist person. One strict list of songs is never enough to satisfy me. My mood, the time of day, where I am, all affect what song I want and I do not like wasting my time fooling around with a playlist that had once satisfied my musical lust but currently does nothing for me. Instead, I simply scroll through my list of songs or artists and choose something that strikes my fancy.

Anyway, here it is:

1. Let's Have a KiKi (Scissor Sisters)- Summer should be a party, a mix of dancing, sun, beaches, and friends. This song encapsulates the feeling of summer's eternal party. There is no way to describe this song other than pure camp. It's marvelous. I wish that I possessed the words to describe it but they do not exist. The lyrics. They will have you in stitches over their flamboyancy and ridiculousness. But at the same time you can't help but quickly fall in love with the beat.

2.  Your Body Country Club Martini Crew Remix (Xtina)- Shallow. I plead guilty. Summer is about flesh and the tantalizingly crude message of this song matches perfectly. This is one of those songs that is ok but the remixes are better. Now that we have begun our KiKi everybody must dance and strip and dance some more. The night is young and the lights are bright and fun is in the air. The pools are crystal clear, the tans flawless, the swim wear close to none. The over processed sound of this song exemplifies the LA summer image that is little more than wishful thinking.

3. Edge of Glory (Lady Gaga)- It is impossible to listen to this song without wanting to dance or sing along at least a little. In my mind, the song is silver. Everything around it is dark but the sound waves radiate silver beats of summer life. The party has been going on for a while, you're a little calmer now and your eyes lock with an extremely attractive individual across the room. You are probably not in your right mind and having an adult sleep-over with said individual probably isn't a good idea. But you could care less. You are on the edge of glory.

4. Don't Stop the Music (Rihanna)- You jumped off the edge of glory and at the bottom you found a dark, seething pit where the dancing is primal and every soul is fighting against the inevitable coming of day. Desperation fills the air. Don't stop dancing. You need more time to find your mate for the evening. Your movements are uncontrollable now. Resistance is futile.

5. Invisible Light (Scissor Sisters)- I am probably breaking some cool person playlist rule by putting two songs by the same group on a playlist of only 5 songs but I couldn't care less. The Scissor Sisters kick ass. I mean, there name is derived from a lesbian sex position, they are amazing by default. (jeewilikers, I really do hope I don't get suspended for saying that.) I have never been under the influence of elicit drugs but I feel like this song's trance like beat resembles the swarming, dark feeling of being in a room with dark blue lights swirling, bodies dancing all around, not crazed more sensual, as though the party is about to end and everybody is savoring that last drop of summer. Oh! and Sir Ian McKellen did a live performance with them, officially making this song fabulous. I hope you are able to understand what I am saying because right now I can't.

6. Gloomy Sunday (Bjork cover)- Summer is over. School is beginning. All seems lost. Listen to the song. It speaks for itself.

*As I read back over this I am confident that nothing in my life has ever made it more clear that I am a flaming homosexual. Oh well. We enjoy summer the most anyway.

**Essentially, all of the ideas expressed in this, I don't even know what to call it, are my ideas of summer that I dream while I lay in bed watching Grey's Anatomy on Netflix.

***Oh my lord. I read it over again. I can't even. I'm sorry. Despite what might be apparent form the writing above, I am not under the influence of anything other than sleep deprivation.
