This entire spring break I have been working, working, working. I sit at an office desk for eight hours a day, stuffing brochures and mailing out letters. I nearly used up my data plan listening to Pandora and NPR the first few days I started, so I had to resort to something a bit more medieval; legally downloaded music. Here's a practical playlist to make the monotony of office work a little less boring. I am composing this as I should be completing said office work, oops.
Richie and Ruben - Fountains of Wayne
I've got to admit, I still have a soft spot for my early 2000's music taste that I acquired from 30-second clips on Neopets profiles. Considering the band's history, this is a relatively new song. I get chuckles listening to the lyrics, so that's why it's gained first place on this playlist. I can concentrate on the story and drown out the sounds of printers and fax machines listening to Richie and Ruben's failures.
Under Cover of Darkness - The Strokes
Probably my favorite song from Angles. It has that fun dance-y vibe that I look for in background music. It's not complex and it's not distracting.
Isoprene Bath - Reptar
I feel like I'm at Bonnaroo listening to this song, living vicariously through my brother as I make minimum wage. It's a get-up-and-go type of song for me, which is good because I need a lot of those songs to keep me awake through the day. The lyrics make no sense, but I think the abstractness just adds to the song. Rohphlyn is not even a word.
If Only - The Kooks
I really, really, really like The Kooks, so it was very difficult for me to pick just one song from the plethora I have downloaded onto my phone. Going with the overarching theme, it's a song that keeps me awake and is easy to work quickly to. I feel like I'm living out my 8th grade softcore rock stage. They're also British, which makes them cool.
Rich Girls (RAC Mix) - The Virgins
My life became substantially better when I discovered I could not only own the original and live versions of my favorite songs, but have remixes as well. I've heard a handful of remixes by this song, probably because it's their most popular, and I'm going to have to give the award to RAC. I can pack up boxes like a boss when I listen to this song.
This playlist is perfect because it's a constant mix of upbeat rock and dancerific tunes. It begins with a kick and ends with a round of jazz hands. It's scattered, but that's alright because I'm a scattered person when it comes to my entire existence.
