Morning Blues

Early morning is a sacred time for me, and I'm not talking about having to drag myself out of bed on a seminar morning. Waking up just at dawn and going for drives in the country has to be just about the best thing there is, to see all of the world waking up and stretching its creaky bones. Naturally you need the perfect playlist to accompany such and adventure.
1. Stumble down the stairs and brew yourself a big pot of coffee, you'll need it for the day ahead. The somber tones of Kid A, Radiohead, will help you start your introspective journey as you look out your kitchen window into the grey lit morning just before the dawn. Pull on your jacket and fill your mug up for the road.
2. Driving this early should give you some sense of solitude, but the environment of the city and suburbs will only harsh your mellow, its best not to mix the beauty of the music with the not so beautiful parts of your trip. but as soon as you break free of the sprawl and the sun starts to rise, put on Sun It Rises, by the Fleet Foxes. You'll see a couple things by them on this list, but its only because their music carries the very essence of our journey.
3. If you feel a little bit giddy and cosmically significant after that last number don't be alarmed, its only natural. It's very difficult to follow a Fleet Foxes song with something other than Fleet Foxes, their albums are constructed with such continuity and completeness. So just succumb to the will and put on Battery Kinzie by the Fleet Foxes. The early morning setting of the song not only seeps into you but also makes you ready to face the forthcoming day.
4. As the fields and old farmhouses whiz by and you feel that indescribable 'it' welling up inside you, turn to My Morning Jacket's Circuital, it will continue the feeling of overwhelming joy you're experiencing. Begin looking for a place to stop for a good breakfast, it must be local and it must be well attended by the locals, your purpose here will be to share the good vibes that you've been building with those you've never met.
5. Tycho's Ascension will help bring you down a bit off of the guitar riffs of MMJ, but also gives a bit of a strange and psychedelic flavour to your journey. The introspectiveness you felt at the beginning of the day will be brought back as you roll into the parking lot of the breakfast joint you've picked out. By the time you're done with breakfast your friends should be awake and you'll be ready to start your day.
