Sleep

Playlists are my best friends, and I have a lot of playlists because I love variation. Not only do I have playlists for activities (i.e. homework, car rides, etc.) but I also have playlists for the different moods I'm in.

The playlist I've chosen to share is one I call "sleep" because it helps me get into the mindset I need to completely relax, which usually occurs when I'm trying to sleep. This playlist consists of songs that have darker, richer sounds to it. Some people might say this could also be used as a "sad" playlist, but these songs are perfect for helping my brain relax, release tension, and drift off.

1. Society--Eddie Vedder
I first discovered this song in Mr. Junker's Arts & Humanities Class last year. Eddie Vedder's voice is deep and soft, which helps me relax. A guitar is the only accompaniment in this song, which creates a blissful realization. Overall, it's a soft and peaceful song that is the perfect song to begin detoxing my mind of all the day's crazy tension.

2. My Body is a Cage--Peter Gabriel
This song appeared on one of my favorite shows, House, and it really caught my ear. It's rather dark, but the eeriness isn't frightening, but rather allows my mind seep into a deep thought process. It's one of those songs that makes you really think, but also doesn't require a lot of crazy traffic in your brain. It really allows me to free my emotions, which helps me calm my racing mind.

3. Beautiful Mess--Diamond Rio
This song talks about confusion and how life has taken its toll. It's soft and has a track that flows together. While it isn't as dark as the previous songs, it has that rich tone to it that makes it perfect for lights out. This song is more about completely freeing my mind about everything and understanding that even when life is so fast-paced, any messes you make are beautiful.

4. We All Fall Down--Darius Rucker
Darius Rucker is one of my favorite artists. His voice is so pure and deep, and his lyrics are just perfect. While this song is on the sadder end of the spectrum, it reminds me of how we all fall down and that life is hard, so there's no need for me to feel like I'm falling behind on life. This frees me of my worries and allows me to enjoy the course my life is on.

5. Lead Me Home--Jamie N Commons
Anyone who knows me knows I'm absolutely in love with The Walking Dead. This song is from a great episode where Rick, Carl, and Michonne find the long-lost Morgan. It has a folk sound to it and is perfect for falling asleep. When I first heard this song on the show, it's at the end of the episode when everything comes together. People must do what they have to do, and this is essentially the purpose the song has. It is a song of enchantment and it completely freed my mind of everything.
