The Mall Bomb

On Friday October 11th, 2002, a bomb exploded in a mall in Finland. The mall was the largest in Vantaa, and one of the largest in Finland. A clown was blowing up balloons around where the bomb went off. There were nearly 2,000 people inside the three story mall when the explosion occurred. The explosion went off on the first floor killing seven people and injuring fifty nine. Of the fifty nine injured where nine kids. Glass shattered everywhere and mothers and children were screaming from the sound and destruction of the mall. The police taught this was a terrorist attack but weren't positive if it was from an organized group or not. The police also believe that the bomb wasn't that big so it could be transported easily. Finland was and is a primarily civil nation. The bombing was something completely out of the ordinary. This event did not have a global affect but it defiantly had a major impact on Finland and not just the city that the mall was located in. Terrorism is not something people put on the back burner and don't think twice about. This is serious stuff and people will take no risks. Personally, if I was in Finland I would get out of there as fast as I could. The people stayed and there hasn't been any major global predicaments stemming from there. The bombing just put the police at a more heightened and alert state. I know there was at least a car bombing that followed the mall bombing, but I do not know if the two are related.
