1. What is the purpose of life?
2. What saying or quotes had the most impact on you and how?
3. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Prompt 2: Two quotes in particular stand out the most to me. The first is "The purpose of life is to find your gift. The meaning of life is to give that gift away." My eighth grade English teacher loved this quote and hung it up in the classroom. It has always stuck with me and really intrigued me. People usually just think that they need to find something they can pursue and do their best. Also, people will try to give back by volunteering or something to that extent. This quote really does make sense when you think about it. You do not want to be self centered, but you are given certain gifts and talents that you are supposed to use in order to succeed. This quote then shows you that you should use your successes and talents in order to help other people in their lives.
Quote number two is "To fail at something is acceptable but to fail to try is not." Okay I lied because there are much more than two quotes that have impacted my life. This quote was said at church, and it really stuck with me. We sometimes think that it is the end of the world if we fail at something and that is doesn't matter unless we won or succeeded in some way. This impacts me because I am of this mentality a lot of the time. I am a competitive person and can be hard on myself. I am not the best at handling doing bad at things and failing at them, so this reminds me that is is better to try and possibly succeed then not try and automatically fail. I think it is motivational because it reminds me that I have control over everything as long as I give my best.
My next quote is kind of a gay teenager quote that someone would maybe tweet after a breakup, but I really do like this quote. "Don't cry because it's over; smile because it happened." No matter what the situation is, this quote can impact your life because you shouldn't get drawn up in the past and miss out on right now and the future. It really does make sense though if you think about it. People get so upset when something ends, but why don't they just be thankful for what they had? If you have had a great year or summer and it is over, you should be happy that you had such a great experience and look at it positively, instead of crying and being a mess because things are going to change.
"A day without laughter is a day wasted." I love laughing. It puts you in such a good mood, it is fun, and it makes you live longer. So why would you want to go a day without laughing? This is kind of on the mode of being positive. You can always find something to be happy about and laugh. I would add another quote, but I will just add the impact into this one. It is about that there is something good in everyday. Instead of thinking about all of the things that went wrong, you should look at all the things that went right and be thankful for them.
