A World in Color -Oct 11
On October 11th, 1950, CBS's color television was the first to be licensed for broadcast by the FCC. Before 1950, television was a very limited form of entertainment or communication, and the dawn of color television changed that completely. Along with color television, many different types of programming were introduced and some shows converted from black and white to color. One thing that the addition of color definitely did for television was it made it much more popular. Television in general became more enjoyable in color because it was much more realistic than black and white, and therefore more enjoyable to most people. Black and white television still had its merits, however a new era of color television had been set into play. This lay the cornerstone to the idea that the television is an important home fixture in almost all situations. Almost all homes today have at least one television, if not two or more. Also, many of these households will have regular television habits. What this means is that people in the household probably watch the news every night, or their favorite show once a week, or every game of a certain sports team. The truth of the matter is that color television has taken over within the American household. More than half of the households in America now have three or more televisions within them. We must now ask ourselves, is that right?
